Tanya Doody Studio is a site to share my material practice, research and collaborations. My ongoing dedication to sustainable ceramics practice has led to researching early clay processes, low-fire techniques, alternative fuels for firing, and local sourcing of Earth materials in environmentally and socially responsible ways.
Clay is the medium through which I connect to the Earth and to ‘place’. Grounding my practice in this material is fulfilling, powerful, and humbling. I work with clay across a multimodal creative practice that engages performative, functional, sculptural, situated, and spiritual aspects of the medium. The tactile nature of clay facilitates a sensory dialogue in the process of working; a continual reciprocal feedback flows from gesture to material and from material back to the body and sense of touch. In my praxis, embodied and tacit knowledge is built up over time, through a continuous dialogue of immediacy, reflection and response.
